The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today placed safety Jordan Whitehead on Injured Reserve. Additionally, the team has promoted linebacker Vi Jones to the active roster from the practice squad.
Whitehead (5-10, 198) originally entered the league as a fourth-round selection (No. 117 overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 104 career games between the Buccaneers and the New York Jets, making 100 starts and compiling 553 tackles (31 for loss), 45 passes defensed, 11 interceptions, seven quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In 11 games for Tampa Bay this season, he had recorded 76 tackles (two for loss), three passes defensed and one quarterback hit.
Jones (6-2, 225) entered the league as a college free agent with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. Jones, who has been with Tampa Bay since signing to their practice squad during the 2023 season, has appeared in six career games between the Seahawks and Buccaneers. He played collegiately for two seasons at the University of Southern California (2017-18) and two seasons at North Carolina State University (2019-21), finishing with a combined 108 tackles, 9.0 sacks, four passes defensed and one forced fumble. He wears No. 53 for Tampa Bay.
