The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) fell to the Detroit Lions (5-1) 20-6 Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
The Detroit Lions defense forced an early turnover, picking off a deflected Baker Mayfield pass on their second drive of the game. Will Harris gave the Lions offense possession at Tampa Bay's 12-yard line. The Bucs defense stood tall, giving up just a 30-yard field goal, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead over the Bucs with 8:09 remaining in quarter one.
The Lions carried their three-point lead over into the second quarter; Chase McLaughlin and the Lions tied things up with the Lions at three with 7:34 left in the first half. Jared Goff and the Lions offense responded, connecting with Amon-Ra St. Brown on a 27-yard TD. Giving Detroit a 10-3 lead over Tampa Bay late in the 2nd quarter. At the end of the first half, the Bucs trailed the Lions 10-3.
The Lions could not capitalize on a field goal try as Riley Patterson's kick went wide right. The Bucs were advantageous, tacking on a field goal courtesy of Chase McLaughlin, cutting the Lions lead to 10-6 over the Bucs with 7:44 left in the 3rd quarter. Detroit's offense answered with six, as Jared Goff connected with Jameson Williams on a 45-yard touchdown pass, and the Lions led 17-6 late in the third quarter.
Early in the 4th quarter, Detroit added another Riley Patterson field goal, extending their lead 20-6 over Tampa Bay with 12 minutes left in regulation. Detroit was able to hold onto the lead and come away victorious, 20-6.
