VIA TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS COMMUNICATIONS -

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today exercised the fifth-year contract option on linebacker Devin White.

White (6-0, 237) was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his first three seasons, he has played in and started 45 regular season games, recording 242 tackles (27 for loss), 39 quarterback hits, 15.0 sacks, 10 passes defensed, six fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and one interception. A member of Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl LV championship team, White has appeared in five career playoff games, tallying 34 tackles (five for loss), four quarterback hits, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

White earned Pro Bowl honors following the 2021 season after leading the Buccaneers with 128 tackles and finishing second on the team in both quarterback hits (18) and tackles for loss (eight).

The LSU product is one of just six players to record 300-or-more tackles and 15.0-or-more sacks in their first three NFL seasons dating back to 1982, joining Duane Bickett, Bryan Cox, Darius Leonard, Brian Urlacher and Daryl Washington. White is also the only NFL player to have recorded 100-or-more tackles and 15-plus quarterback hits in each of the past two seasons (2020-21).

Prior to being drafted by Tampa Bay, White played three seasons at LSU, earning the Butkus Award as a junior in 2018, which is given annually to the nation’s top linebacker. The Springhill, Louisiana, native also earned first-team All-America recognition in 2018 and second-team All-American recognition in 2017, while being named LSU’s Most Valuable Player in each of his final two seasons playing for the Tigers.
