The Tampa Bay Lightning (29-20-5) defeated the Boston Bruins (32-11-10) 3-2 in the shootout on Tuesday night in Boston.
Erik Cernak scored the only goal in the first to give Tampa Bay an early lead, before Nikita Kucherov made it 2-0 with a power play goal 1:06 into the second period. The Bruins answered with a goal fifty-eight seconds later, then scored again late in the second period to tie the game 2-2.
That would be the score through regulation - after a scoreless overtime period, this game went to a shootout. Brayden Point scored the only goal of the shootout in the second round, before Andrei Vasilevskiy closed the door with a save off David Pastrnak. All told Vasilevskiy went 36-for-38 in net to get the win.
The Lightning now return home and well play host to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. Puck drop from Amalie Arena is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Thursday.
