The New York Rangers (32-16-3) defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning (27-19-5) 3-1 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Brandon Hagel scored the only goal of the night for Tmapa Bay, while Andrei Vasilevskiy went 21-for-23 in net in the loss.
The story of this game came with 13:00 to go in the second period, when Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev had to be taken off the ice in a stretcher after coming down awkwardly on his left leg. It was the first game he had played since December 19 as he dealt with a lower body injury.
The Lightning look to bounce back in the second game of a back-to-back on Thursday night. They stay in New York and will go to Brooklyn to play the Islanders on Thursday night. Puck drop in that game is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
