The Tampa Bay Lightning (17-13-5) defeated the Washington Capitals (17-9-5) 2-1 in the shootout in Washington, DC on Saturday night. It was the third straight win for Tampa Bay.
Luke Glendening gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead with a tip-in goal at the 7:29 mark of the first period. Anthony Mantha tied the game for the Capitals with a goal at the 2:01 mark of the second period. The score would remain tied 1-1 through the third period and overtime before the game went into a shootout.
In the shootout Victor Hedman scored the deciding goal in the fourth round to lift the Lightning to the second point and shootout win. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 33 saves on 34 shots on net in the winning effort.
The Lightning return to Tampa with a couple of days off for the Christmas holiday. They return home to host the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night - puck drop from Amalie Arena is scheduled for 7:00 PM on December 27th.
