The Tampa Bay Lightning (32-11-6) defeated the New Jersey Devils (17-28-5) 6-3 on Tuesday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The Devils built a 2-1 lead in the first period and made it 3-1 with a goal early in the second. From there, the Lightning got goals from Steven Stamkos and Alex Killorn as the second period progressed to tie the game 3-3.
The third period belonged to the Lightning, as they got goals from Victor Hedman, Nikita Kucherov and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare to earn a 6-3 win.
Andrei Vasilevsky went 22-for-25 in net to pick up the win for the Lightning. The Lightning got only four shots in the first period, but upped their intensity with 14 shots on net in each the second and the third. Jon Gilliies allowed all six goals for the Devils, converting 24 saves on the 30 shots he saw while in net.
The Lightning will now have an extended break in the time that was originally supposed to be a break for the Winter Olympics. The Lightning play next when they host the Edmonton Oilers at Amalie Arena on Wednesday, February 23rd.
