Lightning Storm Back To Tie It In The Third, But Lose 3-2 In Shootout

Mark Stone scored the game-winning goal in the 7th round of the shootout & Robin Lehner made 27 saves as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Saturday night at Amalie Arena.

The Bolts trailed 2-0 after two periods, but were all over Vegas in the 3rd.

They kept pushing and pushing looking to solve Lehner and at the 13:12 mark, on their third power play opportunity of the period, they finally cashed in.

Ross Colton took a cross-ice feed from Corey Perry & "Ross the Boss" snapped one past Lehner to cut the Golden Knights lead to 2-1.

Then, with the Lightning trailing 2-1 and netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy to the bench for an extra skater, Corey Perry chipped a puck towards the crease from the side of the net and it somehow found its way past Lehner to tie the score 2-2 with 2:48 left in the 3rd.

After having only 9 shots through two periods, the Lightning had 17 in the 3rd period alone. The Golden Knights had 23 shots through two and only ONE in the 3rd.

Former Lightning draft pick Brett Howden, who the Bolts traded to the Rangers in the Ryan McDonagh trade, got the visitors on the board at 5:25 of the 1st period. Howden found the rebound of a William Carrier shot and beat Vasilevskiy to put the Golden Knights ahead 1-0.

Carrier, not to be outdone by his linemate, got in the goal column himself with his 5th of the year at 14:56 of the 2nd. The Vegas winger came around the net and threw the puck out in front and it deflected off of Tampa Bay defenseman Fredrik Claesson and in to put the Golden Knights up 2-0.

Vasilevskiy made 25 saves in defeat for Tampa Bay.
