The New York Islanders defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Wednesday night in Long Island. The loss keeps the season alive for New York, and the team teams will meet in a winner-take-all game seven on Friday night.
Nikita Kucherov left the game with an apparent upper body injury on his first shift of the first period and did not return.
The Lightning were able to build a 2-0 lead midway through the second period. Brayden Point scored in the first period - then in the second period, moments after the Lightning killed off a long 5-on-3 for the Islanders, Anthony Cirelli scored to give Tampa Bay the 2-0 lead.
Jordan Eberle scored at the 14:22 mark of the second period to get on the board, then tied the game in the third period when Scott Mayfield scored at the 11:18 mark. All tied up 2-2 heading into overtime, Anthony Beauvillier scored 1:08 in to give the Islanders the win.
Andrei Vasilevskiy went 25-for-28 in net in the loss for Tampa Bay, while Semyon Varlamov got the win by converting 22 saves on 24 shots.
The Lightning and Islanders now meet in game seven at Amalie Arena on Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 PM - pregame coverage begins at 7:00 PM on News Radio WFLA.
