The Tampa Bay Lightning (30-13-2) defeated the Carolina Hurricanes (29-10-5) 3-2 in overtime on Monday night at Amalie Arena.
The Lightning got a goal from Alex Killorn in the first period and Brayden Point early in the second period to build a 2-0 lead. The Hurricanes rallied back thanks to a goal from Andrei Svechnikov on the power play in the second period and an unassisted goal from Brady Skjei early in the third to tie the game.
Tied 2-2 heading into overtime, it would be Yanni Gourde coming through with the game winner to lift the Bolts to an impressive 3-2 win in one of the more complete games the Lightning have played this season.
Andrei Vasilevskiy went 25-for-27 in net to pick up the win.
The Lightning and Hurricanes meet in the second game of a back-to-back on Tuesday night - puck drop from Amalie Arena is scheduled for 7 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6 PM on News Radio WFLA.
