Lightning #2 Seed After Falling To Flyers Saturday Night

The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1 on Saturday night in Toronto. The Lightning finished the round robin portion of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with four points, and secured the second seed in the Eastern Conference for the first round of the playoffs.

The Flyers began the scoring in the first period, when Nicolas Aube-Kubel scored on a deflection at the 7:40 mark as the Lightning fell behind for the first time this tournament. Aube-Kubel scored again at the 14:00 mark of the first period as the Flyers took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Lightning got their only goal at the 5:21 mark of the second period when Tyler Johnson scored on the power play. The Flyers answered at the 14:22 mark when Joel Farabee scored to make it 3-1. That would be the score heading into the third period - and would remain the score until the Lightning pulled goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy for the extra attacker. Tyler Pitlick got an empty net goal for Philadelphia that would make the final score 4-1.

Vasilevskiy played the entirety of the round robin games of the tournament in net for the Lightning - in this loss to the Flyers, he converted 26 saves of the 29 Philadelphia shots on net. Carter Hart went 23-for-24 in net for Philadelphia to secure the win.

The Lightning now know they will be the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference's first round, and will face either the Toronto Maple Leafs or Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round. For updates as they develop keep it locked to 95.3 WDAE & AM 620 for the latest.
