The Tampa Bay Lightning (37-15-5) knocked off the Pittsburgh Penguins (34-15-6) 2-1 on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.
The Penguins took the lead in the first period when Evgeni Malkin scored on the power play at the 11:31 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Mikhail Sergachev scored on the power play in the second when he came through at the 3:59 mark. Both teams battled through the third period to keep the game 1-1 and force an overtime.
In overtime it was Yanni Gourde who would be the hero. Gourde scored from just outside the crease at 2:45 of overtime - and for Gourde, it was a huge victory, as he scored for the first time in 36 game.
The win is Tampa Bay's eighth in a row - Andrei Vasilevskiy went 35-for-36 in net for the win, while Matt Murray wnet 36-for-38 in net to take the loss for the Penguins.
The Lightning return to Amalie Arena and will battle the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM - pregame coverage begins at 6 PM on News Radio WFLA.
