TAMPA (WDAE) -- Brayden Point had a goal and added three assists, Victor Hedman scored twice, and the Tampa Bay Lightning tallied three power play goals to deliver a lump of coal to the Florida Panthers in the form of a 6-1 decision Monday at Amalie Arena.
The Bolts wasted no time getting on the board as Point's 14th goal of the season beat Sergei Bobrovsky just 41 seconds into the game. The game remained 1-0 until just about five minutes remained in the period, when Hedman got a pass from Point and wristed it past Bobrovsky for his eighth tally of the season. A cross-checking penalty to Jonathan Huberdeau gave the Lightning a power play as time wound down in the period, and Mikhail Sergachev took advantage with his sixth goal of the year.
Tampa Bay took a high-sticking penalty with seconds remaining in the first, and a bench minor early in the second period gave Florida a two-man advantage for nearly half a minute. The Lightning were able to kill off the high-sticking penalty on Alex Killorn, but while on the advantage for the bench minor, Huberdeau redirected an Aaron Ekblad slap shot from the point past Andrei Vasilevskiy for what turned out to be the only goal of the game for Florida.
The Panthers saw Anton Stralman take a tripping penalty just over five minutes into the second, and Colton Sceviour go to the box for a slash less than four minutes later, and each time the Lightning were able to quickly turn the man-advantage into a goal. Alex Killorn made it 4-1 by putting back the rebound on a Steven Stamkos shot on Bobrovsky for his 11th goal of the season, and Nikita Kucherov's one-timer on a centering pass by Stamkos through Point made it 5-1.
The third period saw each netminder stop ten shots, though Bobrovsky saw an eleventh from hedman that beat him for his second goal of the evening with just under two minutes to play, setting the score.
The victory is Tampa Bay's first in regulation since December 12.
The Lightning will be off for the Christmas holiday, returning to the ice at Amalie Arena Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00, and can be heard on NewsRadio WFLA.
