The Tampa Bay Lightning dropped their preseason tilt in Nashville, 5-4 to the Predators on Saturday night.
Playing the second night of a back-to-back, Carter Verhaeghe continued his strong preseason, scoring two goals for Tampa Bay. Cameron Gaunce got the scoring started for Tampa Bay in the first period, and Erik Cernak added a goal early in the third period. Verhaeghe's second goal with 14:18 to go in the third gave the Lightning a 4-3 win that appeared would be enough to get the win, before Matt Duchene scored for Nashville with four seconds to go in the third period to tie the game and force overtime.
In overtime, the Predators secured the win when Rem Pitlick took the puck away from Luke Witkowski deep in Tampa Bay's zone and got the shot past Lightning goalie Scott Wedgewood. All told Wedgewood went 39-for-44 in net in taking the preseason loss.
The Lighting return to Florida where they will play the remaining three preseason games against the Florida Panthers. The next two games will be in the southern part of the state on Tuesday and Thursday, before returning to Amalie Arena for the preseason finale on Saturday. Puck drop for all three games is scheduled for 7 PM - remember you can hear every preseason game, leading up to Opening Night on October 3rd at Amalie Arena, on News Radio WFLA.
