The Lightning (23-24-6) and Ducks (28-16-10) went into a shootout tied 2-2 before the Bolts won the shootout 3-2 to secure a 3-2 victory over Anaheim on Saturday night at Amalie Arena.
The Ducks struck first in this one, when Brandon Montour scored at 8:14 in to give Anaheim a 1-0 lead. The Ducks outshot the Bolts on goal throughout the first period and looked like they may control play against a Lightning team that had dropped three in a row coming into this game. However, less than two minutes later Jonathon Drouin answered with a goal that tied the game 1-1 and gave Tampa Bay life.
In the second period Tampa Bay began to take control, outshooting Anaheim 15-4 on net. They took a lead on the power play when Alex Killorn scored at 10:56 and maintained that lead into the third period. The Ducks tied the game when Ryan Getzlaf scored just 4:02 into the third period and regulation would wind down with the game tied 2-2. The Ducks managed only three shots on net in the third period, as Tampa Bay was able to maintain pressure throughout.
In overtime the Lightning controlled the pace of play throughout, not allowing Anaheim even a single shot on goal to force the shootout. Tied 2-2 after six rounds of the shootout, Brian Boyle scored to take a 3-2 lead and the Lightning would get the second point after Corey Perry missed on his shot and this game was over. Ben Bishop finished with 14 saves on 16 shots while Jonathan Bernier made 35 saves on 37 shots in net for the Ducks.
The Lightning are back in action when they wrap up their homestand against the Kings on Tuesday - faceoff is set for 7:30 and can be heard beginning with pregame coverage at 7 on News Radio 970 WFLA.
