1,135-Pound Blue Marlin Nets Anglers $1.167 Million in MidAtlantic Tourney

Captain Mike Anderson and Ian Beckles can certainly tell you more about fishing than I can, but I had absolutely no idea that marlins can be upwards of a half ton, which angler Billy Gurlach battled for 3.5 hours.

This catch trumped the MidAtlantic Tournament's previous high, a 985-pound blue marlin that was landed only the day before. In fact, on the first day of the tournament, held in the waters between Cape May, NJ and Ocean City, MD, one angler caught a 681-pound blue marlin, which would have won the tournament in 22 of the previous 30 years!

For his effort, Gurlach won the top purse of $1.167 million.

Beats a good day at work.
