Got a Spare $5.2 Million? Someone Thinks This Mantle Card is Worth It!

Seems records are being broken every few months in the baseball-memorabilia industry, no matter the state of the economy.

A rare 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 9 -- PSA is a grading system that ranges from 1-10 -- sold for $5.2 million at auction, almost twice the amount in which it sold in 2018!

That sale bests the previous record price for a baseball card, a Mike Trout 2009 Bowman Chrome Superfractor, sold just six months ago for $3.93 million.

The year 1952 was the first year that Topps produced baseball cards, and there are known to be only three Mantle cards with a rating one notch higher -- PSA 10. Those cards are valued at roughly $10 million each.

The man who purchased the card, Rob Gough, is the man behind the CBD brand Dope CBD, and he does have a history of purchasing valuable sports memorabilia.

Since August, Gough has acquired a 1916 Sporting News Babe Ruth rookie, a 1917 Collins-McCarthy Joe Jackson and several PSA 10 Michael Jordan rookie cards, among others.

Gough feels he got a steal with the Mantle card.

""The 1952 Topps Mantle is the holy grail of sports cards," Gough said. "As a kid ripping packs in the '90s, I always dreamt of owning one. ... I felt this Mantle was highly underpriced."
