Pinellas Detention Guard Accused Of Asking Juvenile Inmate For Sex

CLEARWATER -- Pinellas detectives arrested a sergeant at the Juvenile Justice Detention Center Wednesday, accusing her of trying to set up a sexual encounter with an inmate.

They responded after ten "inappropriate" letters were found in the bed of a 16-year-old boy in custody. They say Sergeant Katelyn Gomez wrote those letters, describing explicitly a potential sexual encounter and describing an ongoing relationship with the victim, who also had Gomez' photo in his cell. Staff members say Gomez was alone with the victim several times, despite instructions against it.

Detectives say Gomez admitted writing the letters and said she fantasized about a relationship with the boy and planned to build a life with him when he got out.

She's been booked into the adult Pinellas County Jail, charged with solicitation of a child.
