Gators Fall To Texas A&M On Game Winning Field Goal 41-38

Jimbo Fisher beats a top five team for the first time since becoming the head coach of Texas A&M as Seth Small kicks a 26-yard field goal as the Aggies beat the Florida Gators 41-38 at Kyle Field in College Station, TX.

The Gators opened up the game scoring on their very first drive racking up 75 yards in just over seven minutes of play as quarterback Kyle Trask found Kyle Pitts for a five yard touchdown and an early 7-0 lead.Pitts setting a new career high with his 13th touchdown reception, and setting an all time mark for Florida as he’s the new school leader for touchdown catches from a tight end.

Aggies quarterback Kellen Mond didn’t waste any time answering the Gators score as he took Texas A&M down the field on their first drive of the game for a score as Chase Lane caught an 11 yard touchdown pass tying the game at seven.Florida and A&M would trade barbs on their second drives of the game as Trask found Kadarius Toney for a touchdown giving Florida a 7 point lead, but only to be answered by Mond with a two yard touchdown pass to Caleb Chapman to tie the game at 14.

Trask wrapped up a fantastic first half for the Gators on another 11 play drive late in the second quarter to give Florida the lead as Nay’Quan Wright rushed in from the one yard line to give the Gators a 21-14 lead.

Texas A&M would finish the half with a Seth Small 19 yard field goal to narrow the gap to 21-17, but the two teams would not slow down in the second half.Trask found Toney for a second touchdown in the game on a 37 yard catch and run giving Florida their largest lead of the game with an 11 point lead at 28-17.The Aggies running game would not be denied in the third as Isaiah Spiller torched the Gators defense for a three yard score cutting the lead to 28-24 and a 19 yard rushing score early in the fourth quarter to give the Aggies their first lead of the game at 31-28.

Evan McPherson tied the game at 31-31 with a 53 yard field goal mid way through the fourth quarter, as the Gators defense came up with their first turnover of the game on the ensuing Aggies drive as Ainias Smith fumbled and recovered by the Gators.Trask put Florida ahead with a one yard touchdown pass to Dameon Pierce giving UF a 38-31 lead, but just minutes later Kellen Mond found Caleb Chapman for a big 51-yard touchdown pass tying the game at 38-38 with under five minutes to play.

Gators running back Malik Davis fumbled on the ensuing possession giving the Aggies fantastic field position, which they took full advantage of by controlling the clock with the running game setting up Small for the game winning field goal and Fisher’s first win over a top five team since joining Texas A&M.

Trask finished with 312 yards passing and four touchdowns, while Mond matched for the Aggies with 338 yards passing and three touchdowns.The Gators allowed 205 yards rushing as Isaiah Spiller lit up the Gators for 174 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Florida drops their first game of the season and will host LSU next week in Gainesville.
