Florida Legislative Session Won't End Today As Planned

Today was supposed to mark the last day of the 2020 legislative session, but lawmakers in Tallahassee will need more time to hammer out a budget, thanks to the coronavirus crisis. Lawmakers say they need more time to think about how to spend the 91-billion-plus for the 20/21 fiscal year beginning July 1st. South Florida Representative Shevrin Jones says weeks ago they were talking about tourism and teacher raises now it's all about properly funding the Florida Health Department. Once a budget deal is inked, state law requires a 72-hour "cooling off" period before a final vote, so the session will not end until at least next week.
