Bolts Beat Isles 3-1 To Win Sixth Straight Game

@jayRecher

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 15 saves and Brayden Point, Carter Verhaeghe and Steven Stamkos each scored as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the New York Islanders 3-1 on Saturday night at Amalie Arena.

It was a pretty even opening period and it looked like we were heading into the 1st intermission scoreless, but Matthew Barzal beat Vasilevskiy from a sharp angle to give the visitors the lead with 38.7 seconds left in the period.

Or so we thought.

After one of the shortest reviews in NHL history, the goal was taken off the board because Barzal was clearly offsides by a few feet.

It didn't take that long for a goal to be scored in the 2nd period and this one counted.

Nikita Kucherov sprung Point for a breakaway and he fired a slapshot past Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov just 14 seconds into the middle stanza.

New York almost tied it up late in the period when Barzal had a breakaway of his own, but Anthony Cirelli hustled all the way back and lifted his stick right before he could take a shot to deny the scoring attempt.

Verhaeghe scored at the end of a great shift at the 6:25 mark of the third, but then the Islanders found some momentum.

Following a holding penalty to Kucherov the New York power play went to work, and with five seconds remaining on the power play Derick Brassard scored to cut the Tampa Bay lead to one.

The Islanders were pressing for the equalizer late, but Stamkos buried one into the empty net to with 1:02 left to seal the deal for the good guys.
