Bolts Complete Sweep Of Sabres In Sweden

Patrick Maroon's two goals helped key the Lightning to a 5-3 win over the Sabres on Saturday afternoon in Stockholm, Sweden. The victory clinched a two-game sweep by the Lightning of the Sabres in the NHL Global Series.

Sam Reinhart, who had both goals for the Sabres in the first game on Friday, started the scoring in the game on Saturday when he scored at the 9:30 mark in the first.period. Patrick Maroon scored his first goal at the 17:02 mark in the first on the power play to tie the game. From there the Lightning were able to take control in the second period, as Sweden native Victor Hedman scored at the 1:58 mark, while Maroon added his second goal of the game with three seconds left in the second period to lift the Lightning to a 3-1 advantage.

In the third period Victor Olofsson scored early to pull the Sabres within 3-2, but that was as close as the game would get. The Bolts got two goals just over a minute apart midway through the third - one from Yanni Gourde, and the other from Mathiu Joseph - to start to pull away. Though the Sabres got a goal late from Jack Eichel to pull within 5-3, that was as close as Buffalo would get as the Lightning will be heading back to the United States with four points in two games in Sweden.

Curtis McElhinney got the start in net for the Lightning, and converted 40 saves on 43 shots to clinch the win. Carter Hutton was in net for the Sabres, and went 35-for-40 in taking the loss.

The Lightning now return back to the United States and begin a two game homestand this week. They will play the New York Rangers on Thursday night at Amalie Arena - puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM, and pregame coverage begins at 6 PM on News Radio WFLA.
