The Florida State Seminoles (3-4, 2-3) fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (6-1, 2-1) on Saturday night in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Nick Sciba kicked four field goals in the first half, but Florida State used two Cam Akers touchdowns (one passing, one receiving) to take a 14-12 lead. Wake Forest got their only touchdown in the fourth quarter to take a 19-14 lead when Cade Carney ran it in three yards to conclude a 6 play, 61 yard touchdown drive. Florida State answered 3:03 later when James Blackmon hit Tamorrion Terry for a 36-yard touchdown pass that gave the Seminoles a 20-19 lead. But Wake Forest was able to get just enough offense when Nick Sciba nailed his fifth field goal with 4:18 to go to secure a 22-20 win over Florida State.
Cam Akers had a monster day in the losing effort, rushing for 157 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries, while hauling in another 42 yards and a touchdown in the air. James Blackman went 27-of-43 with 280 yards and two touchdowns with one interception for the Seminoles.
Florida State returns home to host Syracuse next Saturday afternoon. Kickoff from Tallahassee is scheduled for 3:30 PM next Saturday.
