ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- Jacob Waguespack and three relievers combined to throw a five-hit shutout, and Bo Bichette homered and scored both Toronto runs as the Blue Jays ended the Tampa Bay Rays six-game winning streak with a 2-0 shutout Monday at Tropicana Field.
Toronto needed just two batters to take the lead, as Bo Bichette led off the game with a double high off the wall in right, and Cavan Biggio followed with a base hit to left to bring him in.
Bichette made sure the baseball made it to the stands in his next at-bat, leading off the third with his third home run of the year for a 2-0 advantage.
Tampa Bay had opportunities with runners in scoring position in the second, fifth sixth, and seventh innings, but each time failed to convert. Tampa Bay finished 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position.
Morton (12-4) worked the first seven innings, allowing the two first-inning runs on seven hits total, striking out nine. Austin Pruitt worked two scoreless innings of relief.
The loss drops Tampa Bay back to fifteen games over .500 on the yearad drop back to nine games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East.
