Buccaneers Lose Important Veteran Piece To Defense

On Monday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers returned to practice bright & early after a day off. And the day started with some good including the presence of more than 2,500 active duty military, retired & veteran service members & their families attending the training camp practice for an exclusive Military Appreciation Day event.

The good on the field, shown in the video below, included a catch by wide receiver Chris Godwin.

That pass by Jameis Winston was just part of what Head Coach Bruce Arians called the quarterback's best training camp practice. Arians also stated the offense seemed to come out at the start of practice with more energy than the defense.

For the second straight practice, both Winston & backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert completed the team's 11 on 11 & seven on seven drills without throwing an interception. Winston did misfire on this pass you can see below but rookie safety Mike Edwards is unable to come down with the interception.

As good as practice went for the team, it was obvious because of his absence on the field, Arians would be providing new information after the team's practice about starting inside linebacker Lavonte David. Arians originally stated two days ago that David was being rested because of a minor knee issue & the team did not want him practicing on their indoor turf surface. But on Monday, the news was official with Arians advising the media that the eight year veteran linebacker had minor knee surgery on a torn meniscus.

The injury according to Arians would keep David out for the preseason but David should be available for the start of regular season.
