Bucs Running Backs Heck Of One Two Punch According To Head Coach Arians

Tuesday's training camp practice for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers included a little more balance with both the offense & defense making impressive plays. One of the first big plays by the defense was an interception by cornerback Vernon Hargreaves on a pass by quarterback Blaine Gabbert intended for tight end O.J. Howard.

The offense did bounce back during 11 on 11 drills with quarterback Jameis Winston completing some throws to wide receiver Mike Evans. But the practice ended early for Evans, who as you can see in the video below, was carted off the field because of heat cramps.

Both sides of the ball continued to impress throughout practice. But maybe the most intriguing play of camp so far during the first five days came from a check-down pass on third down by Winston to running back Ronald Jones II. The fun started after Jones made the catch. And as you can see from the video below, the play includes Jones breaking tackles, scampering for a long gained only to have the ball stripped away. The play ends with Winston making the tackle on safety Jordan Whitehead nearly 50 yards down the field.

Jones did rebound from the fumble during the first team's next series when he was able to get outside & burst up field for this long run captured on video by own Zac Blobner.

The explosive plays by Jones prompted the media to ask Head Coach Bruce Arians after Tuesday's practice about the running back. Arians stated the starting running back for the team is an open competition. He also expects both Jones & running back Peyton Barber to play a lot, no matter who ends up winning the competition.
