What could be the first step in a process for the Tampa Bay Rays leaving the Tampa Bay area, Major League Baseball has officially given permission to the franchise to look toward splitting the regular season between home games in Tampa Bay and Montreal.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the plan would play early-season home games in the Tampa Bay area and the remainder of the year in Montreal, sources familiar with the situation told ESPNwould play early-season home games in the Tampa Bay area and the remainder of the year in Montreal. The move would require approval however approval from the city of St. Petersburg, the MLBPA among others.
