Garcia, Meadows Lead Rays To Series Win Over Jays

ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- Five pitchers combined to throw a six-hitter, and Avisail Garcia and Austin Meadows each homered, as the Tampa Bay Rays secured a series win over the Toronto Blue Jays with a 3-1 victory Tuesday at Tropicana Field.

After Ryne Stanek put up a zero in the top of the first, Tampa Bay loaded the bases with one out against Clayton Richard, with Avisail Garcia singling and Tommy Pham and Willy Adames each drawing a walk. Travis d'Arnaud then drove in Garcia with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

Garcia made it 2-0 in the third, as his fly ball was lost against the roof of the Tropicana Field dome by Randal Grichuk, and the DH was able to round the bases for his tenth home run of the year.

Meadows made it 3-0 in the seventh off Thomas Pannone, blasting his team-leading 12th home run of the year into the seats in right-center.

Ryan Yarbrough earned his fourth win of the year, and second in as many starts since returning from a month in Triple-A tossing 3 2/3 innings if relief behind Stanek, allowing just two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Chaz Roe got the final out of the sixth, before Emilio Pagan put up zeroes in the seventh and eighth innings, and Diego Castillo allowed a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Drury, but finished the contest to earn his sixth save.

The win improves Tampa Bay to 14 games over .500 for the first time this season, and clinches their 12th series of the season.
