Rays Deal Font To Mets

ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays Monday traded reliever Wilmer Font to the New York Mets in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Font was acquired by the Rays on May 25, 2018 from the Oakland Athletics for minor-league pitcher Peter Bayer, and went 2-1 with a 1.67 ERA in nine appearances, including five starts, for Tampa Bay in 2018 before a lat injury ended his year. The 28-year-old worked exclusively out of the bullpen this season, going 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA. He last worked for the Rays in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader in Kansas City, allowing a run on four hits in three innings of their 8-2 loss to the Royals.

To take his spot on the active roster, right-hander Casey Sadler was recalled from Triple-A Durham.
