Snell Heads To Injured List With Broken Toe

ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday had to place left-handed pitcher and reigning Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell on the 10-day injured list with a broken fourth toe on his right foot.

Snell said he suffered the injury Sunday night after the team returned from their road trip while moving a piece of furniture, had the granite base fall an break his toe.

"Really dumb," Snell said describing the sequence of events that led to the surgery. "I went to bed Sunday [night], woke up, and thought, 'Wow that's worse than I thought.' For a second, I thought it's not broken and we'll see how tomorrow goes. Then I woke up and called Joe [Benge, the Rays head athletic trainer] and was like 'Yeah it doesn't feel good.' Then came in and got treatment and got x-rays, and it was broke and was like, 'Yeah, I'm an idiot.'"

To take Snell's spot on the roster, pitcher Emilio Pagan has been recalled from Triple-A Durham.
