Snell, Garcia Lead Rays To Spring Victory Over Phillies

CLEARWATER (WDAE) -- Blake Snell pitched two perfect innings, while Avisail homered and drove in three, leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 8-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Monday at Spectrum Field.

Tampa Bay scored a run in the top of the first on Garcia's sacrifice fly that scored Brandon Lowe, and added four more in the next inning, loading the bases against Vince Velazquez and getting a two-run double by Lowe and a a two-run single by Willy Adames.

Jalen Beeks allowed back-to-back homers to Andrew McCutchen and Jean Segura to lead off the home half of the fourth, but Garcia's two-run blast in the fifth gave Tampa Bay their five-run lead back, and Jake Smolinski added a solo home run an inning later to set the score.

After Beeks finished off the fourth, Wilmer Font worked 1 2/3 innings, allowing two hits. Yonny Chirinos and Ryan Yarbrough combined to throw the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing just one walk and striking out six.

The Rays head to Dunedin to take on the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday. Hunter Wood will open the contest, taking on Aaron Sanchez. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05.
