With 13 seconds left in the second quarter, Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston broke Tampa Bay’s all-time quarterback touchdown passing record on a throw to wide receiver Chris Godwin in the back of the end zone. That connection at the end of the half brought Winston’s total to 81 touchdowns, surpassing Josh Freeman’s record of 80. Earlier in the game, Winston tied Freeman at that mark after connecting with receiver Adam Humphries for a score.
After leading the Bucs to a 17-7 lead at halftime without turning the ball over, the fourth-year passer will look to build on the record he now holds in the second half. Winston will have four more games after this Sunday’s matchup is complete to make his case to be the team’s long-term answer at the quarterback position. The first-overall pick of the 2015 NFL draft has played in 52 games in his four seasons in the league before taking ownership of this historic accomplishment.
