Gators Come Back From 17 Down To Beat South Carolina 35-31

Florida Gators quarterback Felipe Franks’ one yard touchdown run in just over four minutes to play in the game was the difference as the Gators come back from seventeen points down to beat the South Carolina Gamecocks 35-31 on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville.  Franks one yard touchdown run capped a ten play drive and gave Florida their first and only lead of the game as South Carolina controlled much of the game, but the Gators secure their seventh win of the season (5-3 in the SEC).

The Gamecocks offense came into the game rolling as they scored three touchdowns on their four possessions in the first half.  South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley found Jacob August & Kyle Markway to take a 14-7 lead on the Gators.  Bentley added a rushing touchdown before the half as South Carolina took a 21-14 lead into halftime.

The Gators offense awoke in the second half as they outscored the Gamecocks 21-10 as Franks led Florida to 24 unanswered points as they closed the game scoring touchdowns on their final three drives of the game.  Franks finding Kadarius Toney for 18 yards and a touchdown closed the game to 31-21, only to be followed by a Lamical Perine 23 yard touchdown run making it a 31-28 game with under 11 minutes to play.  That’s when Franks led his team on a game winning drive late in the fourth quarter on ten plays using just over four minutes of clock to take a 35-31 lead over the Gamecocks.

Franks finished the game 15-21 for 161 yards and a touchdown pass while also rushing for 36 yards and two touchdowns.   Jordan Scarlett led Florida’s rushing attack with 159 yards on 18 carries as the Gators outgained the Gamecocks on the ground 367-147.  Florida outgained South Carolina 528-386 on offense.

The Gators return next week to the Swamp and will host Idaho.
