The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that Mike Smith has been replaced as the team’s defensive coordinator. Mark Duffner, who had previously served as the team’s linebackers coach, has been elevated to defensive coordinator.
After the team announced the decision, head coach Dirk Koetter met with the media. He admitted this was the second hardest thing he has had to deal with as a head football coach, having worked with Mike Smith several places before hiring him at the Buccaneers defensive coordinator. He also talked about the loss to Atlanta on Sunday, which included a crazy final play and saw Gerald McCoy leave the game with an injury. To hear his full comments, click below.
