ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- A familiar name has surfaced in one team's search for a new general manager.
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that Rays senior vice president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom has interviewed with the New York Mets for their vacant general manager position.
Bloom joined the Rays in February of 2005 as a baseball operations intern, and has worked his way up the totem pole, being named to his current post in November of 2016.
Assistant GM John Ricco and special assistants J.P. Riccardi and Omar Minaya have been running the Mets baseball operations department since Sandy Alderson announced he was stepping away in June to treat his cancer which had returned.
