Perfect Ten: Rays Beat Orioles To Extend Home Win Streak


ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays pounded out 14 hits against Baltimore pitching , with eight of nine starters getting a hit as the Rays won their tenth straight home game, defeating the Orioles 10-5 Saturday at Tropicana Field.

Tampa Bay scored four time in the bottom of the first inning, all in different fashions.  Mallex Smith, who reached on a Renato Nunez error, ended up scoring the first run of the game on a wild pitch.  Tommy Pham tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Ji-Man Choi.  Three straight singles by Kevin Kiermaier, Willy Adames and Jake Bauers made it a 3-0 game, and a double steal attempt allowed Adames to score and make it 4-0.

A safety squeeze by Joey Wendle an inning later scored Brandon Lowe to make it 5-0.

After a perfect first inning by Diego Castillo, Ryan Yarbrough put up a scoreless second, but allowed Baltimore to get on the scoreboard thanks to a Jonathan Villar infield single, scoring Cedric Mullins.  Nunez made it a 5-3 game in the fourth with a two-run blast off Yarbrough.

Tampa Bay extended their advantage back to four runs in the sixth with a Tanner Scott wild pitch that scored Adames and a sacrifice fly from Wendle, and when Baltimore cut the lead back to 7-5 in the top of the seventh, the Rays added three more in the bottom of the inning against Paul Fry and Mike Wright Jr. to set the score.

The win is Tampa Bay's 15th in their last 18 games, and are now 13 games over .500 for the first time this year.
