Infielder Isaac Paredes of the Tampa Bay Rays has been chosen the American League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet, and All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been named the National League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Paredes earned his first career Player of the Week Award and is Tampa Bay’s second winner this season, following his teammate Manuel Margot for the period ending May 8th. Freeman claimed his sixth career Player of the Week Award and his first with the Dodgers, last accomplishing the feat in September 2016 while a member of the Atlanta Braves. Freeman is Los Angeles’ second recipient of 2022, following his All-Star teammate Cody Bellinger for the week ending April 24th.

The 23-year-old batted .579 (11-for-19) with six runs scored, two doubles, five home runs, nine RBI and a 1.474 slugging percentage over five games played.
The Mexico native homered in three consecutive games from Tuesday – Saturday, matching Manuel Margot for the longest such streak by a Ray this season.
Tied the single-game Club record (seventh time) with three round-trippers on Tuesday against the Yankees. Became the first player in franchise history with three homers through the fifth inning of a game.
The slugging infielder became the second player in Club history to deliver five home runs in a three-game span, joining his All-Star teammate Brandon Lowe (September 29 – October 2, 2021). Was the second player in the Majors this season to accomplish the feat, previously done by Minnesota’s Byron Buxton from June 8th-10th.

The five-time All-Star posted a slash line of .440/.533/.840 with six runs, 11 hits, two doubles, a triple, two home runs, 11 RBI and four walks across six games.
The California native recorded a four-game streak from June 19th-23rd in which he logged at least a run, an extra-base hit and one RBI in each outing.
Led LA to a pair of wins over the Braves in his return to Truist Park for the first time as a visiting player, collecting four hits, two runs, a double and three RBI.
The 2020 NL MVP enters play today on a season-best 10-game hitting streak dating back to June 15th, helping the NL West-leading Dodgers to a 7-3 mark. Homered in consecutive games on Wednesday and Thursday, and has registered five multi-hit efforts during the streak.

Other noteworthy AL performances for the week included two-way All-Star Shohei Ohtani (7 H, 3 HR, 10 RBI; 13 SO, 2 H, 8.0 IP) of the Los Angeles Angels; starting pitcher Dylan Cease (1-0, 0.69 ERA, 24 SO, 13.0 IP) of the Chicago White Sox; backstop Alejandro Kirk (.450, 5 R, 4 HR, 9 RBI) of the Toronto Blue Jays; All-Star outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (.316, 6 R, 4 HR, 7 RBI) and starter Cristian Javier (1-0, 13 SO, 0 H, 7.0 IP) of the Houston Astros; and starter Frankie Montas (0.00 ERA, 8 SO, 2 H, 8.0 IP) of the Oakland Athletics.

Other noteworthy NL performances last week included shortstop Dansby Swanson (.387, 7 R, 4 HR, 6 RBI) of the Atlanta Braves; All-Star starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (2-0, 1.84 ERA, 19 SO, 14.2 IP) of the Milwaukee Brewers; shortstop Nico Hoerner (.480, 5 R, 12 H, 5 RBI) of the Chicago Cubs; outfielder Brandon Nimmo (.423, 5 R, 11 H, 4 XBH) of the New York Mets; starter Logan Webb (1-0, 0.69 ERA, 13 SO, 13.0 IP) of the San Francisco Giants; and Freddie’s teammates Trea Turner (.464, 7 R, 13 H, 4 RBI) and Will Smith (.379, 11 H, 3 HR, 6 RBI).
