Rays Clinch Series Win With Second Straight Over Jays

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- Wilson Ramos' two-run homer off Jaime Garcia in the third was all the offense the Tampa Bay Rays would need, as they went on to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays for the second straight night, with Tuesday's final 4-1.

Ramos' home run came with two away in the third, as Rob Refsnyder walked to begin the inning, was erased on a fielder's choice grounder by Matt Duffy and Jake Bauers struck out in front of the catcher, who took a 1-0 changeup and sent it off the garage doors in center field for his eighth home run of the year.

Toronto cut the lead back to a single run in the fifth with a run on a groundout by Devon Travis, but Tampa Bay escaped the inning and added on with two more runs in the sixth as C.J. Cron walked to start the inning against Garcia, and Willy Adames doubled him to third base.  John Gibbons brought in right-hander Joe Biagini from the bullpen, prompting Kevin Cash to pinch-hit Joey Wendle for Christian Arroyo.  The move paid off for the Rays as Wendle singled in Cron for a 3-1 lead, and two batters later, Mallex Smith's RBI single brought in Adames to set the score at 4-1.

Ryne Stanek began Tuesday's contest by setting down the first six Toronto hitters in a row, before giving way to Austin Pruitt, who allowed a run on four hits in 2 2/3 innings, but picked up the win to improve to 2-3.

Jonny Venters got the final out of the fifth, with Chaz Roe and Jose Alvarado combining to work the sixth through the eighth, and Sergio Romo working around a Kevin Pillar single for a scoreless ninth and his second save of the year.
