Rays End Up On Wrong End Of Pitching Duel

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- David Price combined with a pair of relievers to throw a four-hit shutout, while Rafael Devers' RBI single was all the Boston Red Sox needed as they outlasted the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 Friday at Tropicana Field.

Rays starter Blake Snell pitched shutout baseball into the sixth inning, allowing two hits and a pair of walks while striking out two, throwing just 84 pitches on the evening.

The Rays did not get a base runner until the fourth, when Kevin Kiermaier beat out an infield chopper for a base hit.  They'd leave a pair of runner on in the inning after C.J. Cron singled when Wilson Ramos flew out to right field to end their best opportunity to score.

After Chaz Roe struck out J.D. Martinez to end the sixth, he allowed a leadoff double by Xander Bogaerts in the seventh, and Jose Alvarado followed by giving up a base hit to Devers that led to the only run of the game.

Price allowed all four of Tampa Bay's hits in his seven innings of work, not walking a batter and striking out five.  Matt Barnes worked a scoreless eighth an Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for his first save of 2018.
