FORT MYERS (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays will travel back to Fort Myers Wednesday to take on the Minnesota Twins at Hammond Stadium. Ryan Yarbrough will get the start, taking on Aaron Siegers. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05.
HECHAVARRIA, DUFFY DEALING WITH NAGGING ISSUES -- Rays third baseman Matt Duffy and shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria have now missed a couple of games in a row, with Duffy dealing with back spasms that caused him to be scratched from Tuesday's contest and Hechaverria having hamstring tightness.
Duffy said he's had similar spasms in the past and it takes "a couple of days" for it to go away on its own and could play through them.
Meanwhile, Hechavarria experienced some hamstring tightness while fielding ground balls on a wet field while wearing tennis shoes Monday. Manager Kevin Cash says the shortstop was trying to stay back on a grounder that took a weird hope and when he did, "his leg kind of gave out on him."
"It's nothing major," Hechaverria said through translater Manny Navarro, who also said he expects to resume activities Thursday.
HONEYWELL ON HIS TOMMY JOHN SURGERY -- The Rays announced Tuesday that pitcher Brent Honeywell underwent successful Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, and Wednesday the 22-year-old took to Twitter to thank Dr. James Andrews, who performed the procedure.
GOMEZ EXPECTED TO ARRIVE THIS WEEKEND -- Cash said that outfielder Carlos Gomez is expected to arrive in Florida from the Dominican Republic on Friday and should report to Rays camp Saturday. Gomez has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth $4 million with Tampa Bay.
