Honeywell Diagnosed With Forearm Strain

PORT CHARLOTTE (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays had been healthy through the entire practice session before Grapefruit League games start.  That stretch came to an end Thursday.

Right-handed pitcher Brent Honeywell has been diagnosed with a right forearm strain which occurred during the team's final full-squad practice .

"Obviously it's unfortunate, but we'll let the doctors and trainers get a look at him," manager Kevin Cash said after practice.  "I wasn't there but I heard he was fairly frustrated and rightfully so.  He worked hard this offseason.  But other than that, I don't know anything, so we'll wait until some feedback comes."

After throwing a pitch to catcher Wilson Ramos, who was taking live BP, Honeywell unleashed a couple of swear words, prompting a visit from trainer Michael Sandoval, who took his glove and walked him back to the clubhouse.

Honeywell, 22, is in his first big-league camp after going 12-8 with a 3.64 earned run average in 24 starts with Triple-A Durham in 2017.  He was Tampa Bay's top prospect of 2018 and the 14th ranked prospect in all of MLB, according to Baseball America.
