The Knights were the only team in FBS to finish the season undefeated, but were not selected for the College Football Playoff. The committee that selected Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama pointed to UCF's schedule as the main reason why they were left on the outside looking in. The Knights played only one game against a bowl-eligible team from a Power 5 conference (their Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl victory over Auburn).
