According to multiple outlets, the University of Florida has decided to part ways with head coach Jim McElwain.
McElwain won SEC East titles in each of his first two years with the program and became the first coach in league history to advance to the SEC Championship Game in his first two seasons, but he did so amid massive offensive struggles that he was brought in to correct following the four-year Will Muschamp debacle.
This season with a roster that's filled with players he recruited, the program took a massive step back defensively and got off to its worst start since 1986.
McElwain’s latest loss was last night’s 42-7 loss to Georgia to drop the Gators to 3-4 on the season. The Gators have lost three in a row to LSU, Texas A&M, and UGA after starting the season 3-1. Those three wins came against Tennessee, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt.
The University has not officially confirmed the reports.
