Flowers Sets Record As USF Bulls Over ECU 61-31

South Florida quarterback Quinton Flowers with 89 rushing yards and three touchdowns overall as USF’s undefeated season continues with a 61-31 win over East Carolina on Saturday in Greenville, NC.  Flowers rushing total today pushes him into the record books as the USF quarterback is now the all time rushing leader in the state of Florida from the quarterback position as he surpassed Tim Tebow, who held the record with 2,947 career rushing yards.

USF wasted little time on offense getting on the scoreboard as Flowers took the Bulls on their opening drive nine plays and 39-yards for a D’Ernest Johnson score from a yard out.  The Bulls offense was rolling from the very get-go against an East Carolina defense that has struggled this season allowing an average of 48 points per game. 

Following a 28-yard field goal by the Pirates, the Bulls outscored the Pirates 24-14 till the end of the first half where East Carolina wrapped up the first 30 mins of play with quarterback Thomas Sirk brining back an old Tim Tebow move with a jump pass to Stephen Baggett from two yards out pulling the Bulls lead to 31-24 at the half. 

USF came out of the half scoring on each of their first four drives of the game outscoring East Carolina 24-7 as the fourth quarter approached.  Quinton Flowers with a pair of touchdown passes to Tyre McCants and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the third quarter.  Valdes-Scantling also found the end zone of a 75 yard touchdown run on the end around earlier in the contest. 

USF outscored ECU 30-7 in the second half and finished with 575 yards of offense including 390 yards rushing.  Flowers finished with 160 yards passing and two touchdowns.  D’Ernest Johnson finished the game with 111 yards rushing on 16 carries and two touchdowns.

USF moves to 5-0 and 2-0 in conference play and will host Cincinnati following a bye week next week.
