The Tampa Bay Storm learned their first-round AFL playoff opponent Friday night when Baltimore lost 41-35 at home to Washington. That result dropped Baltimore (4-10) to the No. 4 seed and earned the Brigade an Aug. 12 date at top-seed Philly, which recently beat them 70-21.
Tampa Bay (10-3) is the No. 2 seed and will host Cleveland (5-9) on Monday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. The Storm are 3-1 against Cleveland this year, having won way back in the season opener when Shane Boyd had his one and only start at QB for the Gladiators.
Ironically Boyd was under center Friday for Baltimore as starter Shane Carden is out with a concussion. Boyd had a chance for a winning touchdown late but threw incomplete from the 3-yard line on the game's final play.
In Week 3 Tampa Bay pulled off a huge comeback, down by 20 points to Cleveland and new QB Arvell Nelson, scoring with 3.3 seconds left (full game below). The following meeting was July 8 and saw Cleveland defeat the Storm, only for Tampa Bay to return the favor with a 57-27 domination.
Tampa Bay is at Philadelphia Saturday night to wrap the regular season.
Darek Sharp will have the play-by-play call on 1250 WHNZ.
