ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- Alex Cobb outdueled Rick Porcello by pitching shutout baseball into the eighth inning, while Jesus Sucre's sacrifice fly turned out to be all the offense fans would see Saturday as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Boston Red Sox 1-0 Saturday at Tropicana Field
The only run of the game came in the bottom of the second inning, as Steven Souza Jr. and Brad Miller started with base hits. Adeiny Hechaverria grounded into a fielder's choice to put runners on the corner with one out. Porcello then hit Shane Peterson to load thebaaaaas and Sucre's sacrifice fly scored Souza for the only run of the afternoon.
Cobb allowed six hits in 7 2/3 innings of work aided by a couple o amazing plays in the field by Hechaveria, and one from himself.
Alex Colome got the final out of the eighth inducing a fly ball from Mookie Betts on a 3-0 count, before working a scoreless ninth, though he allowed a hit and a pair of walks, one intentional, for his 24th save.
The win gets the Rays back to three games over .500 at 46-43 and ensures they'll have a winning record going into the All-Star Break.
Tampa Bay will look to take the series in Sunday's finale, with Chris Archer (7-5, 3.95 ERA) taking on his old fiend and former teammate David Price (4-2, 4.02 ERA) Sunday's matchup is scheduled for a 1:10 first pitch, with coverage WDAE beginning at 11:00 with The Inside Pitch presented by Sykes Lakeland.
