Former Tampa Bay Tech Star Added, DB Activated

From Tampa Bay Storm PR Wednesday...

The Tampa Bay Storm is pleased to announce that it has activated defensive back Al Phillips and acquired rookie offensive lineman Devonte Danzey.

Phillips (5-foot-11, 190 lbs., Wagner) rejoins the Storm after spending the 2016 season with National Conference champion, Arizona Rattlers.  The seven-year veteran began his first stint with the Storm in 2015 and quickly became the leader of the defensive backfield.  Phillips had a stellar 2015 season, leading the team with 107.0 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions, a forced fumble and a single-season franchise record 39 pass breakups.

The Hialeah native began his professional career in 2010 with the Spokane Shock.  He would also spend time with the Milwaukee Iron and Utah Blaze.  For his career, Phillips has recorded 424.5 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 15 interceptions, 95 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Danzey (6-foot-2, 305 lbs., Auburn) joins the Storm for his first season in the Arena Football League.  He began his collegiate career at Hutchinson Community College (KS), where he was ranked as the nation’s top prospect at offensive guard.  He would transfer to Auburn, where he appeared in 29 games for the Tigers.

A Tampa native, Danzey prepped locally at Tampa Bay Tech where he was named the team MVP and earned Tampa Tribune All-Hillsborough County honors.
