TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning is set to host their 2017-18 Lightning Girls team auditions for all interested females on July 23 beginning with registration from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at AMALIE Arena. Auditions will offer participants a chance to showcase their applicable skills: dance and cheer, while skating experience is preferred but not required.
Although the auditions are dance-based, the Lightning will not be making final decisions on dance skill and technique alone. The Lightning invite advanced dancers and beginners out to participate.
To be eligible to try out, interested females must be of 18 years of age or older and must have a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED). Participants must also have flexible evening and weekend schedules for home games, appearances and weekly mandatory rehearsal.
Following registration, Round 1 of auditions will begin at 10 a.m. and will give all applicants the opportunity to learn choreographed material and perform. At 1 p.m. Round 2 will begin and all advancing applicants will learn new choreographed material to present. Those who advance will be brought in for interviews during the week of July 24. Auditions are not open to the public and any additional guests will not be permitted. All advancing candidates will remain at auditions until complete. The 2017-18 Lightning Girls team announcement will be made on July 28.
This will be a long day for advancing candidates. Please bring water, towel and snacks. Candidates are asked to wear half-top or sports bra, dance shorts, skin-colored tights, and dance shoes or sneakers with full performance make-up and hair.
Registration is available prior to and on audition day. To register prior to audition day, candidates are advised to submit a resume including one 5x7 headshot and the Lightning Girls application attached below by July 20. Although not required, the Lightning is requesting participants to make a two-minute DVD or web link video expressing their desire to be a Lightning Girl and any unique talents or related skills they may have. By fulfilling this request, the candidate will allow the Lighting to get to know her prior to the auditions and these applicants will be heavily considered.
Registration will be open to all interested candidates on audition day and will begin at 9 a.m. and close at 10 a.m. Participants need to bring the following: identification card, resume, Lightning Girl application and one 5x7 headshot.
