The USF baseball team jumped ahead early and cruised to a convincing 9-1 win over Bethune-Cookman Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Gainesville regional. The Bulls will get the Gators-Marist winner Saturday at 7.
Duke Stunkel went 4-for-6 with 3 RBI, his 2-run homer in the second making it a 4-0 game. It was 7-0 through four innings and Chris Chatfield added a 2-run homer for a 7-0 lead in the sixth.
Bulls starter Phoenix Sanders pitched seven scoreless innings, with Bethune-Cookman's lone run coming in the ninth. USF is the No. 2 seed in the region.
