Rays outfielder Steven Souza Jr. was forced out of Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays after he was hit on the left hand by a pitch from Joe Biagini.
Souza was hitting with one out in the top of the seventh inning, when he was hit on the top of his left hand by a 95 mile per hour fastball on the first pitch of his at bat.
The right fielder was down in the batters box for a moment, and had to be helped to his feet by assistant athletic trainer Paul Harker. Harker then checked Souza's hand before recommending to manager Kevin Cash that Souza be lifted from the game. Shane Peterson pinch-ran for him.
Souza missed 34 games in 2015 after he was hit on the same hand by a pitch from Boston's Joe Kelly and suffered a broken bone.
UPDATE 4:05 PM: Initial x-rays on Souza's had were negative, and the outfielder is scheduled to be re-evaluated in the next 24-48 hours.
The right-fielder had been 1 for 2 in the game, and is currently leading the team in RBI and batting average.
